Complete withdrawal of services by all members of the TA Union CUPE
2278 will commence Monday February 24th at 12.01am.  No teaching assistant
or marker will work after this date.

STRIKE PAY:

Members will be eligible for strike pay of $20 per hour up to a maximum of
$200 per week tax free.  To receive strike pay you must; 1) demonstrate
that pay has been deducted from your paycheque through supplying a
copy of your pay-stub; and 2) undertake picket duty as assigned by the Union. Strike pay will be distributed at the Lutheran Centre twice per month,
starting March 3rd.

Members should sign up for picket duty for next week at the Strike HQ
(Lutheran Centre) this Thursday and Friday between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m.  If
you are unable to sign up at these times please turn up to picket on
Monday and we will ensure you get a shift.

Picket shifts are in 2-hour blocks running from 7am - 5pm Monday to
Friday.  Until we receive a settlement there will be strike duty for
you
to do when you sign up and you will be eligable for strike pay for it
(you do not have to worry about your duty being cancelled).

Members should report for Picket Duty at the Strike HQ (Lutheran
Centre)
15 minutes before your shift - you will be dispatched to your assigned
location. Bring noisemakers, musical instruments, radios, etc, to make
the time more enjoyable.

There will be a General Membership meeting on Monday, February 24 at 5:15 p.m. in the GSS Ballroom (pending booking confirmation) to discuss the state of job action. Please attend the meeting to have your questions addressed - this will be faster than sending an email to any Union official! We intend to have weekly Union meetings while the strike is  in
progress.

The Union needs more volunteers to carry out the many tasks associated with building support for our demands. We know there is a fantastic wealth of creativity amongst TAs and our supporters that can be tapped to win this fight. Below are a list of sub-committees that have been struck that need more active members. If you have time, energy, and ideas to contribute to our cause, please contact one of the following people:

Strike Planning Committee: Adrienne Smith, ass@interchange.ubc.ca

Administrative Committee: Andrea Van Dejick,  annemiek@interchange.ubc.ca

Communications Committee: Anthony Waldron, waldron@zoology.ubc.ca

Outside Liaison Committee (liaising to other groups on campus and in
the community): Paul Hommersen, ruc@interchange.ubc.ca

Membership Mobilization Committee: Joshua Caulkins,
caulkins@eos.ubc.ca

Strike Fundraising Committee: Alex Grant, grant@zoology.ubc.ca

The committees may be advertizing their own meeting times that volunteers can attend.

Thank you for your patience in this process, we understand how frustrating  this has been.  We are coordinating our actions with CUPE 116 and CUPE 2950 and will release strike updates as soon as new information arises.

Remember, a supported strike is a shorter strike, and the longer the picket the shorter the strike.  Lets convince UBC administration to settle now before the term is wasted!

In Solidarity,
