On Wednesday, February 19, after two days of voting, members of UE Local 896/COGS ratified a new contract with the Iowa State of Iowa Board of Regents and the University of Iowa.

We were the last of the Big Ten universities without a uniform tuition remission plan for graduate employees.  We won a partial tuition remission plan that will halt the erosion of our salary increases due to massive tuition hikes.  COGS also fought off the university's attempt to
deteriorate our health insurance by shifting many costs to employees.

This settlement is the product of years of hard work to achieve a tuition benefit.  It is also a testament to the power of an active, hard working union membership who are determined to make sure the value of graduate employee labor is appropriately respected and compensated.

Keep up the fight!
