Subject:     McMaster Support Staff Strike

For those who haven't heard (and not much is out there), McMaster University staff struck this morning.

These workers are members of an independent local union, the McMaster University Staff Association.  MUSA recently certified and this is a first contract strike.

Their strike vote was not just overwhelming, but is was so despite the fact that as an independent local union MUSA doesn't have the resources to pay its members strike pay.

CUPE has committed to provide financial assistance.  Our local on campus at McMaster, 3906, has been assisting as requested for the past few weeks and has passed along its experiences of the 3906 strike last year.

It's not clear what MUSA is asking for in support of their strike.  If anyone out there has that info they might want to share it.

Certainly I would think that picket line support and financial
contributions would be welcome.

MUSA strike HQ is at 1544 Main Street West in Hamilton.

Messages of support would, I am sure, be greatly appreciated.
