Professor Aleeta Powe joins the department's Analtical Chemistry Division as Assistant Professor. Dr.Powe did postdoctoral research at LSU in the laboratory of Professor Isiah Warner. She received her Ph.D. in Chemistry from American University in Washington, D.C.

February, 2006

Professor Richard Higashi joins the Biochemistry Division as Associate Professor and Associate Director of Mass Spectrometry Development in the nascent Center for Regulatory and Environmental Metabolomics. Dr. Higashi comes to us from the John Muir Institute of the Environment and the Crocker Nuclear Laboratory at the University of California at Davis, where he was Associate Research chemist and Head of the Environmental Chemistry Group.

July, 2006

Professor Michael Nantz joins the Organic Divsion as Professor of Chemistry and Distingished University Scholar. Dr. Nantz did his Ph.D. work at Purdue, followed by postdoctoral studies at MIT. He had been Professor of Chemistry at UC-Davis. His research interests are in synthetic organic chemistry, gene therapy, and liposome and polymer applications in drug delivery. He holds more than a dozen patents, has published about 80 scientific articles and a textbook in Modern Organic Synthesis.
