Edwin Segal (emeritus)
Edwin Segal, Ph.D., has been a faculty member of the Department of Anthropology since 1966, and holds an appointment in the Women's Studies department. His two main research interests are gender and ethnicity. Dr. Segal has done research in Nigeria, Tanzania, Malawi, Cameroon, South Africa, and most recently in Kyrgyzstan. While on sabbatical leave in the fall of 2001, he worked on a collaborative research program in Kyrgyzstan exploring the relationship between Islam and ethnic attitudes. The Central Asian Research Institute has since given Dr. Segal a grant to return to Kyrgyzstan and continue his research. Dr. Segal is looking for volunteers to assistant with his research projects.
