Julie Peteet
Dr. Julie Peteet has been a faculty member of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Louisville for ten years, and has been the chair of the department for six years. One of Dr. Peteet's main research interests is the political anthropology of the Middle East, where she lived for ten years and also where she conducted her dissertation research. Dr. Peteet also works on refugee studies and Palestine, the focus of her most recent book. This book, Landscapes of Hope, Landscapes of Despair: Place and Identity in a Palestinian Camp, is based on ethnographic fieldwork carried out by Dr. Peteet and examines the relationship between space, place, and identity in a refugee camp. Dr. Peteet is able to bring refugee studies to Anthropology students by providing various internships at Kentucky Refugees Ministries, a grassroots refugee settlement agency in Louisville, where she serves on the board of directors. Students interested in working with Dr. Peteet should contact her via email.
