Psychiatry Research

MAPS Group

Welcome to the Laboratory of Molecular Anthropology and Population Studies. We are small group of molecular anthropologists, biologists, and physicians dedicated to combining research and teaching. We are developing an undergraduate research program that seeks to articulate classes broadly focused on human evolution, health, and disease with a comprehensive training program in methods of molecular anthropology. Our goal is to investigate interesting problems in human evolution while incorporating a small group of students in an active laboratory in order to provide them with the training and expertise to succeed in their budding research careers. Our primary research focus is to use evolutionary theory and genetic data to better understand the etiology and pathology of psychiatric disorders.
