This
member profile is significant to me. First, Melanie is the Assistant Head
of Reference at Louisiana State University. Besides making sure that the
reference desk is properly staffed, the reference books are bought, and
hundreds of other things, she was my supervisor while I was a paraprofessional
there (thats why this is significant). In the world of NMRT you
may know Melanie as the co-chair of the 3M/NMRT Social, member of the
Local Arrangements New Orleans Committee, Orientation Committee,
and a few others.
After a couple of years working in libraries at various levels, Melanie found that she enjoyed the work. She worked as a paraprofessional while she earned her MLIS. She enjoys the challenges of reference work, and the interesting people that come to the desk. She became involved in NMRT and committees to meet more interesting people and to learn how to get involved.
Forthcoming from Melanie is a book chapter entitled, Inspirational Literature, in African American Literature: A Guide to Reading Interest, by Alma Dawson and Connie Van Fleet.
When Melanie is not working you may be able to find her spending time with her family, shopping, or traveling. She also likes cosmopolitans (the drink). Finally, from personal experience, I recommend working with Melanie if you get the chance.
